Essentials to a Leadership Presentation

Leadership is a quality that a person is usually born with. But that doesn’t mean that it cannot be developed. Developing certain skills with regular practice for enough time can eventually transform you into a great leader. But again, the learning process will require you to be patient to adopt the comprehensive qualities.

A presentation on leadership will involve a lot of suggesting to the audience on what all must be done. But you must keep in mind that you do not sound like a preacher! In doing so you will need to keep the following in mind:
  • Think like a lay man and not an expert! – Of course being a professional or a person who has thoroughly understood the concept of leadership you will know a lot about it. But make sure that you do not try to put across every simple and complex concept because that will have the audience confused. Keep the presentation simple as if you were to explain it to a child. This way a person of any IQ will get what you are trying to explain.
  • Exemplify wherever required! – Using examples to relate the information to a concept that is already known to the audience helps them understand better and is also successful in gaining their attention. You could also get creative and weave a story around the example for stories are fascinating to almost everyone so as to keep them listening to what you are saying.

The presentation itself should necessarily emphasize on certain aspects. They are:
  • Defining who a leader is – It is important that you clearly define who a leader is. It must be clearly stated that a true leader is not the one who dictates or forces his decisions upon the masses but one who takes everyone along while acting as a mentor; his actions must be directed for the common good of those who follow him.
  • Identifying one’s individual style – There are different types of leaders for instance there is the charismatic leader whom people follow to support his cause because of his strong, impressive personality, the autocratic leader who is too technical in delivering his duties and doesn’t usually consider the followers’ feeling and many other leadership styles. The presentation must familiarize the audience with these types to help them identify the type of leader they would want to be.
Required skills set – The list of skills necessary to possess or build with time to become a successful leader is really long. A few of the most essential ones are stated below:

•    Cool mindedness and motivated
•    A good sense of judgment to even comprehend the unsaid
•    Great communication and persuasion skills
•    Excellent time management skill
•    Exception skill at handling problems, especially emergencies
•    Assertive where needed yet compassionate to all

Leadership is indeed a complex process that gets even more complicated when it has to be taught to someone. But taking care of all the above stated aspects is sure to make your presentation on leadership a huge success!
